Getting and Giving Walrus Lovin'
We know we're nerds for sharing this, but since it's right there in our core values (#7, create nerdy fun) we feel justified.
Last month we wrote a letter to the editors of The Walrus, responding to a piece they did on the banning of Lady Chatterly's Lover in Canada (What Thunder Bay Burned), and they published it! We won't reprint the whole thing here, but this is just a peek at our incredibly well written righteous indignation:
Even in contemporary public discourse, discussions of sexuality tend to be guided by moral bias rather than critical judgment. Sex may be more visible in this day and age — it’s used to sell products from lattes to jeans — but sexuality, truly examined, still makes legislators uncomfortable. When the government determines what is and isn’t a morally acceptable exploration of sexuality, we risk losing not only our artistic works, but our sexual freedom.
We go on to talk about Bill C-58, the toe-fucking scene in Weeds. It's short, but cute.
Okay, nerd-fest is over...back to work!
