October Newsletter 2010
Whether you were raised in the trick-or-treat tradition of Hallowe’en or you have children in your life who celebrate it now, it is difficult to not associate this season with kids in costumes cruising the neighbourhood for candy.
As many of us know, Hallowe’en began as a whole family affair - rituals designed to bring in the good spirits and keep us safe from the bad ones. In fact, with all of the good cheer, masks, and costumes, the Hallowe’en of days of yore is a great reminder of how we adults in modern times have really lost our way when it comes to adult play.
We’d like to suggest that we adult folk reclaim a bit of the fun and imagination of Hallowe’en and give ourselves permission to make believe again.
At any other time of year, costumes and fantasy can seem a bit out of place or contrived, but just as Valentine’s Day provides an excuse for red roses and chocolate, Hallowe’en gives us room to free our imagination and experiment with a whole other level of fantasy and adult play.
This All Hallow’s Eve, let us all follow the lead of our friends in the queer and BDSM communities and make a little sexy make believe ourselves. Whether you celebrate your fantasies in the privacy of your own home, meander through a Hallowe’en street party or debauch at a fetish club, use this holiday to expand your horizons and play a little trick or treat with yourself.
